…Update from WHO

The World Health Organization publishes the WHO Weekly Epidemiological Update on 14 December 2022.

Omicron species currently account for 99.5%.

The Omicron has sprouted. have descendants from more than 540 subspecies This is a hybrid virus resulting from crossbreeding with subspecies. Also known as recombinant, over 61 subspecies.

The characteristics of the virus changes that have been observed during this period are Mutations of multiple loci are common or recurrent in many subspecies. reflect that new viruses tend to evolve in a similar direction (convergent evolution)

Importantly, those mutation loci appeared to be related to the virus’s ability to develop immune evasion.

WHO lists five subspecies currently under close monitoring.

BA.2.75.x has been reported since December 2021 and has spread to Southeast Asian countries. To date it is widespread in the world in 85 countries. Originally endemic to India and Bangladesh, it was later replaced by XBB. Currently the country with the highest prevalence of this subspecies is Thailand (53.8%), Australia (25.1%), Malaysia (22.5%), China (18.8%) and New Zealand ( 16.3%).

BA.5 has long dominated the global epidemic. Because it has the ability to infect quickly. and more immune resistant than its predecessors, BA.1 and BA.2, which have been detected in 119 countries.

BQ.1.x is one of the fastest growing varieties. It is now distributed in 90 countries.

XBB.x is a cross between BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75, first reported in August 2022. The outbreak has now spread to 70 countries worldwide. But the prevalence is still low, around 3.8%. The most common countries are India (62.5%), Dominican Republic (48.2%), Singapore (47.3%), Malaysia (40.9% ) and Indonesia (29.3%).

and BA.2.30.2 have several mutational loci similar to the aforementioned subspecies, few outbreaks have been reported. but it can be found on almost all continents

…in total Strains BA.2.75.x and XBB were found to be slow to expand. in Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific

While BQ.1.x and BA.5, which have more mutations from the original 5 positions, the epidemic has expanded relatively faster. and spread all over the world

…Thailand’s epidemic is still ongoing.

Should live consciously, not carelessly, always be careful when you go out in daily life. need to get a booster vaccine To reduce the risk of serious illness, death and long COVID
