The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed one of the first cases of death from mysterious hepatitis in children. The number of mysterious hepatitis infections also increased to 169 people from 12 countries.
The United Nations agency on Saturday (23/4) revealed that this rare case of hepatitis caused inflammation, up to 17 of which required a liver transplant.
Quoted from The Guardian, most of the mysterious hepatitis infections were in England, followed by Spain which recorded 13 cases, and Israel 12 cases. The rest, a mysterious hepatitis outbreak spread to the US, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Norway, Romania and Belgium.
Has it been found in Indonesia?
Secretary of the Directorate General of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, stressed that the government had not yet found a similar case. Mysterious hepatitis has just been reported in many European countries.
“It hasn’t been (found) yet,” said Dr Nadia via short message to Mr detik.com Tuesday (26/4/2022).
Even so, Dr. Nadia still asks the public to be vigilant if there are symptoms of jaundice that do not get better. WHO recently encouraged countries to analyze case reports of hepatitis, wary of the spread of similar infections in many regions.
“While the numbers are not large, the consequences are quite severe,” said Richard Pebody, of the WHO’s European division of the high-threat pathogens team.
“It is important for the state to detect this possibility early.”
What are the Symptoms of Mysterious Hepatitis?
Several case reports of mysterious hepatitis commonly complain of conditions similar to jaundice, including:
Urine with a brown color like tea water
Pain or discomfort in the stomach
