KOMPAS.com – The World Health Organization (WHO) said it had received a report regarding the finding of a new type corona virus of English.
WHO Emergency Program Director Dr Mike Ryan said that currently the new type of corona virus was still being investigated.
“We know this genetic variant, reported in 1,000 people in the UK,” said Di quoted by Reuters, Tuesday (15/12/2020).
He admitted that over time, from reports received by WHO, the corona virus that causes Covid-19 continues to develop.
“The authorities are looking at its significance. We have seen many variants, this (corona) virus develops and changes over time,” he said.
For findings in the UK, WHO has so far found no evidence this virus strain behaves differently from existing viruses.

Reported BBC, British scientists are conducting a detailed study of the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus.
“No one says (this virus) causes worse disease and the vaccine no longer works,” said Matt Hancock.
Furthermore, there has been a sharp and exponential increase in coronavirus infections in London.
Meanwhile, British Chief Medical Officer Prof Chris Whitty said that currently the coronavirus swab test will detect new variants of the virus that have been found, especially in Kent and surrounding areas in recent weeks.
The change or mutation that is present involves the viral spike protein.
However, he considered it too early to know with certainty about the behavior of the new virus.
“This doesn’t mean the disease (the new virus) is more contagious or dangerous,” said University of Birmingham expert Prof Alan McNally.

According to him, great efforts are being made to characterize the variants and understand their emergence.
“It is important to maintain a calm and rational perspective on this new strain, because it is a normal virus evolution,” he said.
Matt Hancock said, a new variant of the corona virus there is a possibility related to the rapid spread in southeast England.
However, this does not mean that the virus has caused a resurgence of cases.
