WHO: monkeypox international threat to public health | Abroad

Experts divided over warning

GENEVA – WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has declared monkeypox “an international public health threat.” That status is the highest alert level of the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations. The recent outbreak of the monkeypox virus outside areas where it normally occurs in Africa is now an international risk, according to the WHO, although not all experts agree with that alarmist tone.
