The deadly Marburg virus may have returned to Germany after 60 years. There are two in Hamburg over medical examination due to suspected life-threatening viral infection. It was reported that one of the two had previously worked in a hospital in Rwanda where people infected with Marburg disease are treated.

The last recorded case was in 1967. The pathogen is named after the German city because at that time a group of laboratory workers there were infected with a previously unknown virus through contact with experimental monkeys.

Marburg virus comes from the same family of pathogens as Ebola. In addition to high fever, it causes symptoms such as muscle pain, abdominal cramps, diarrhea and bloody vomiting, which can be fatal. Alexander Boyko, editor-in-chief of the Berlin Telegraph magazine, says:

Organized tours depart from Russia to Rwanda. An attractive place for travelers is the national park, where there are many elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards and other African animals. But it is famous for mountain gorillas, which are listed in the Red Book. Jungle walks are offered to golden monkey habitats. These primates got their name from their golden colored fur and are considered a poorly studied species, which is also on the verge of extinction. Tourists can see the behavior in their natural environment. Business FM called a tour operator who arranges trips to Rwanda. Here’s what he told the radio station:

– Now you should not go to Rwanda, the news is already gone, there is a deadly virus present in the country, so you should choose another side soon, while there is an infection – loose there. There are currently 26 cases of the virus in Rwanda, 18 are isolated patients, and eight have died.

– Are there flights?

– Of course, we will do everything there, after all, our proposal, will be according to your will, look, read how much. Not all African viruses are particularly benign, and when this is also associated with high mortality, this raises additional concerns. And so, of course, we do it all. Do you want to go to the gorillas?

– There are.

– Flights there, as a rule, go for a short time, for two or four nights, no more, our programs are designed that way.

– Haven’t airports closed because of the virus?

– Until now there was no question about closing airports, we did not have such a message, we have paid special attention to this situation. God grant that this will not turn into an epidemic, so now we have to follow the news of the world and about Rwanda, because reports about the virus, about these warnings, about additional measures came to us just a couple of days back.

In early September, the German government proposed a plan for migrants who enter the European Union illegally in Rwanda, it was reported. Reuters.

The German government’s migration commissioner, Joachim Stamp, said at the time that the EU could use existing shelters in Rwanda, originally earmarked for Britain’s plan to send illegal migrants to the country East Africa in 2022. As is known, the British export plan to Rwanda was canceled by the new government of Keir Starmer in July.

The deadly Marburg virus, which threatens the world, may already be in Germany. The reported outbreak in Rwanda could lead to a new epidemic, warning World Health Organization.

The Marburg virus belongs to the Ebola family and is clinically similar to it. Symptoms of Marburg, for which there is still no vaccine or treatment, include severe headache and abdominal pain, bleeding from the nose and mouth. The virus spreads through contact with infected materials and surfaces and the biological fluids of sick people. The mortality of the virus reaches 88%. It affects cells in the liver, the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system.

According to WHO, there is a risk that the virus will spread to neighboring countries – Congo, Tanzania and Uganda, as cases have been reported in areas close to them. Cases have also been identified in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, where the international airport and road network are located, so the virus could spread further. One of the contacts is reported to have traveled to Belgium. And, according to German media reports, Marburg may have been imported into Germany.

A 27-year-old medical student from Rwanda flew to Germany from his home country, where he was treating a patient with the Marburg virus, on a direct flight. In Frankfurt am Main, he and his girlfriend boarded a train going to Hamburg. During the trip, the student developed symptoms of the Marburg virus. German authorities shut down the train station in Hamburg to prevent the spread of the virus. The students are isolated and transported to the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg in a special ambulance for infectious diseases. As a precautionary measure, the police recorded the contact details of the train passengers. Here are two more. According to Deutsche Bahn, there were an average of 275 passengers on the train. Air passenger data is available. The need for additional measures and measures depends on the results of the study. According to local doctors, diagnosis can take up to 24 hours.

Rospotrebnadzor saidwhich monitors the situation with the deadly Marburg virus fever. To reduce the risk of introducing the disease into Russia, a diagnostic test system was prepared. At border checkpoints, citizens with symptoms of infectious diseases are identified using the automated Perimeter system. The margin includes a poll and temperature measurement. Speaking Doctor of Medical Sciences, physician, psychiatrist, specialist in particularly dangerous diseases Vladislav Zhemchugov:

– The Marburg virus, hemorrhagic fever virus, lives in Africa, mainly West Africa, zoonosis, that is, there are animal carriers, people become infected through contact with the animals that or poorly prepared food that is not heated. The disease is fatal, 100%, if you do not interfere with the process in any way, the disease is transmitted in every way there is, so it is very dangerous, the first group of viruses especially dangerous, if someone gets from the city. sick, then the whole town will die. The fight against quarantine is the worst, a danger, in fact, for the whole world, incomparable to either the coronavirus or anything else, it is the most dangerous thing you can imagine when entering densely populated areas. There is no vaccine, and there is no treatment either. That is, separate all communications for at least 20 days in a special center where there is the first level of security protection. We have created a barrier at the border to prevent the introduction of such dangerous diseases. Rospotrebnadzor controls the flow of people coming from these countries and monitors information. But we must be aware that there is an incubation period, it is short, manifestations can be blood vessels in the eyes or a very red face, and so on. This is a serious task, but the coronavirus gave an opportunity and forced the whole world to prepare.

– You said the incubation period is short.

“It depends on the infectious dose, where the effect is, from one to three days.

– If a person gets sick, there is no vaccine, but still with some kind of supportive measures, maybe it is treated, as usual with treatment here?

– Yes, nothing is normal, there are no such patients, this is a deadly virus. The treatments are anti-inflammatory treatment, with the expectation that the dose is small and that the population is more resistant to the virus than Europeans; it’s amazing how it got to Europe.

On October 1 in Rwanda due to illness died 10 people, a total of 29 cases of the disease have been confirmed. In addition, the 19 patients currently being treated are mainly medical staff and are alone. Cases were found in seven of the country’s 30 regions.
