At the end of January 2023, the shock wave is almost unprecedented. In the streets of Yaoundé, from upscale restaurants to crowded taxis who were used to listening to his instantly recognizable voice, we only talk about one thing: the murder of Martinez Zogo, radio columnist for Amplitude FM.
Second commando
The body of the Cameroonian was found a few days earlier, on January 22, 2023, in a vacant lot on the outskirts of Yaoundé. Kidnapped on the 17th, the journalist was beaten and tortured, before being left lifeless. So, in the capital as across the country, everyone is asking one and the same question: who is behind the kidnapping and murder?

A year later, these questions remain. Major personalities were arrested, including businessman Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga and the now ex-boss of the General Directorate of External Research (DGRE), Léopold Maxime Eko Eko. It is also clear that this dreaded intelligence service provided the men and the brains of the commando who carried out the kidnapping.
But the certainties end there. Who is the sponsor? Is a second commando hiding behind the one who confessed to having kidnapped Martinez Zogo? Is there, behind this macabre kidnapping, a political exploitation whose perpetrators have not yet been worried? And is the government, by playing with the appointments of magistrates, seeking to cover up the affair?
