Russia and Belarus are already eliminated from this year’s World Cup in Finland, the Russians also lost the Junior Championship at the end of the year. But still the IIHF International Hockey Federation has not taken away from them the senior championship, which is to be hosted by St. Petersburg in 2023. But it is inconceivable that a really big sporting event should take place there, so the question arises as to who could take over the tournament. What about Switzerland, which lost the coronavirus tournament in 2020? Or should the Czechia apply for the championship and hasten its organization in a year?

And who will stand at the Czech substitutes at that championship? It seems that Finnish coach Kari Jalonen will lead the national team and his Czech aides will be Miloslav Hořava and Pavel Gross, at least that is the idea of general manager Petr Nedvěd, whose task is to find a coach. At the same time, however, he must convince Jaromír Jágr and Jiří Šlégr, two members of the executive committee, that a foreign coach is the right choice because they have a different opinion.
