Marvel has just confirmed that a new movie Captain America was going to be shot … but without Steve Rogers. As expected after Avengers : Endgame, actor Chris Evans returned his costume and shield. And we already know his successor. In fact, we have even seen him in Captain America on Disney +, as long as we have watched the new series on the platform …
For Disney fans, Star Wars or Marvel, Disney + has established itself in a few months as the essential streaming platform to stock up on cult films or new series. Especially on the side of Marvel superheroes since early 2021, with the arrivals on our screens of WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What if…?, before Hawkeye this autumn. And if we suspected that these series would have an impact on the rest of the films in the cinema, we have just had the best possible confirmation with the announcement of Captain America 4, for which the hero with the shield will be embodied by one of the characters seen in one of these series …
Flashback. At the end of the epic Avengers : Endgame, the Captain America who has always been seen in movies in the MCU, Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, travels through time to put the Infinity Stones back where they belong. Except that he decides not to return from this mission. Or rather, he’s coming back, but as the now old Steve Rogers who has preferred to live his life with his sweetheart Peggy Carter, and keep “America’s best butt” away from tight pants. A nice end for a character who had already lived well, and who allows a second reading of films about him. He therefore waited for this very precise moment to return, and give his shield to his friend Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, alias Falcon. He had previously told his childhood friend Bucky, aka The Winter Soldier, about his project. This is how we find these two characters, who have a little trouble supporting each other, at the start of the mini-series. Falcon and the Winter Soldier. A new Captain America who flies
At the start of the series, Sam therefore gave up the shield, much to Bucky’s chagrin, who is angry with him. But when the duo discover that the new Captain America is a bit nagging soldier and far from sharing the same values as Steve Rogers, they decide to unite with sometimes unexpected characters to counter a terrible threat. And we discover more about the history of Captain America, including his alter ego sadly left in the shadows … Very effective, the series therefore sees the evolution of Sam Wilson, who prefers to remain Falcon at the beginning, to finally agree to become the new Captain America, wearing a brand new costume, made for him in Wakanda, combining the shield and his wings. And unsurprisingly, it is Anthony Mackie, the interpreter of Sam Wilson, that the role of the new Captain America has been entrusted. Even if the person concerned was obviously the last person in the world to know, as he had confided to Entertainment Weekly last april :
“I found out about this yesterday while going to the grocery store! The cashier asked me if it was true and I told him that I had not been contacted. That’s what I like about the store. been working for Marvel. They call you, they say, “Come to LA We want to tell you what’s going on.” So, I can’t wait to see what will happen, but for now I’m not aware of anything “
The rumor was therefore running, but an agreement was finally found, and a contract signed, to make Anthony Mackie the new Captain America of Marvel in the cinema.
So this is no surprise, even in the first episode of the new animated series. What if…?, we find out what could have happened if Peggy Carter had taken Steve Rogers’ place. It is also an understatement to say that Captain Carter is more effective than Captain America, but his final meeting with Nick Fury could remain without result. Unless the next events in the multiverse allow the new Captain America and Captain Carter to meet? The possibilities have never seemed greater at Marvel. And to keep it up, it is now more recommended than ever to follow the series …
