Who is the main beneficiary of Jasson Dominguez not being called up to the Yankees?

As the days go by, the discussion about the convenience of the New York Yankees’ decision to leave Jasson Dominguez in the minors when MLB rosters were expanded remains latent.

There has even been speculation in Major League Baseball that it all responds to the intention of the New York organization to manipulate the service time of the 21-year-old Dominican outfielder who is the best prospect on their farms.

But manager Aaron Boone made it clear and his response is in line with what the team’s general manager had stated weeks earlier: they will not promote Dominguez if he is not going to play every day.

“He will continue to be in the conversation from now on”Boone said Sunday of the decision they made with the rookie. “When he comes here, we’re going to want him to play every day, so he’ll still be in the conversation.”

Cashman was even more specific when he addressed Dominguez’s lack of room in the outfield: “It’s good to know he’s there. He’s just shaking off the rust and waiting for his chance if it comes.”.

And all of this brings us back to one thing: they are not considering sitting Alex Verdugo, who is ultimately the big beneficiary of the fact that the Dominican was not promoted. The 28-year-old left fielder of Mexican origin arrived in a trade last winter and although he has not had the best offensive performance, he has the support of the Bronx team’s top brass.

After discovering he is allergic to batting gloves, Verdugo has been slowly improving his production and after four straight games of hitting at least one hit, he has seen his averages rise to .235/.293/.359 with a .652 OPS. He has 11 homers, 28 doubles and 56 RBIs and most importantly: the trust of his manager.

Boone recently stated that Verdugo is “able” offensively and ensures that the player has had “a bit of bad luck this year” on the plate.

If you look below that, it’s in line with what he’s done for most of his career, as far as quality of contact,” The strategist indicated. “He can really play left field. If he can get back into shape, speaking of [añadir] depth to the lineup, can certainly provide that”.

Verdugo has been criticized for his ups and downs on offense for much of the season. However, he will feel more pressure from now on and it will be interesting to see how he handles it: the Yankees bet on him for the rest of a season in which they have high aspirations and put him ahead of their best prospect. All eyes will be on him.
