His arrival at Marvel

Fabián Nicieza is a comic book editor and writer born in Argentina on the last day of 1961. At 62 years old, he is recognized for having written multiple characters in comics, such as X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, Cable, Deadpool and Thunderbolts.

Nicieza graduated in advertising and public relations from Rutgers University in 1983, while already working for the ABC television network. Two years later he landed a job in the production department of the Berkley Publishing Groupof which he would be editor-in-chief.

That same year, the writer joined the staff of Marvel Comics as a production assistant, but it was not until he joined the promotions department as a publicity manager that he began to do his first creative work.

His promotion in the company

Nicieza went from writing articles for the House of Ideas’ promotional magazine Marvel Age to creating his first story for the company. It was in July 1987, in the comic Psi-Force #9, belonging to the New Marvel Universe (his foray into Psi-Force left him as a regular writer from issue #16 to #32).

The big leap came when Tom DeFalcowho was then Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, called on him to create the New Warriors in The Mighty Thor Vol. 1 #412.

Nicieza accepted the job because he saw potential in these characters and wanted to write a regular series. He went on to write 53 issues until November 1994. Later, the writer said that he considered these issues to be the best he had ever written in his career.

In the mid-nineties, Nicieza left Marvel’s stable to begin making independent projects, many of them related to the company.

Among his most recent works are: Avengers Alliance, Age of Apocalypse for Marvel, and his participation in several specials related to the saga Convergence in DC Comics.
