The 2022/23 NFL season is now properly underway and, with a third of the campaign gone, it’s a pretty good time to revisit and analyze the top contenders for the Super Bowl.
The NFL’s season finale is less than four months away and it will be really interesting to see how things wind down. Since the start of the campaign, some teams have surprised us all and put themselves in the frame for Super Bowl success while some have fallen along the way.
That said, let’s take a look at the top three contenders.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have been tipped to win this one from the start and are still the favorites after six games at 11/4. While they are considered to be the best team in the NFL at the moment, they aren’t considered value for money at the current odds.
Sitting at 5-1 and led by quarterback Josh Allen, they could have easily been 6-0 had Isaiah McKenzie run out of bounds in Week 3. Allen is the favorite for league MVP this season and is a proven winner who can get it done in tight situations, he’s the very reason Buffalo, ranked No.2 in offense, is expected to win it all this term.
Defensively, the Bills rank at No.1, but they also have a very strong offensive unit, which they tailored to get the best results. So far it’s been working.
Philadelphia Eagles 5/1
The Philadelphia Eagles are the only undefeated team left in the NFL this season and are the biggest surprises of the campaign. They’re now the second favorites to win it all by the end of the term at 5/1 following their blistering start.
That they’re undefeated has undoubtedly made them a target but they’ve done well in responding to the pressure while third-year quarterback Jalen Hurts is improving steadily. Hurts’ development has seen the Eagles move to the fourth-best offense in the league. Add the sixth-best defense to that and you have a legitimate contender.
Hurts now has some viable options around him in AJ Bronw and DeVonta Smith, who are having career seasons, while Miles Sanders is also showing remarkable improvement. The Way they’ve been playing under pressure at the end of games has left many believing they can go on and win the Super Bowl this season. And they just might.
It’s worth noting that the New York Giants are also creeping up as a surprise contender and they’re one of just two teams to have won six games this season at 6-1. The Eagles are the only other team with six wins, at 6-0. The Giants are now 40/1 to win the Super Bowl at the end of the season and fans have likely already flooded New York betting apps to secure these odds. At the moment, though, they’re still considered a very long shot, despite their record and form.
Kansas City Chiefs 13/2
The Kansas City Chiefs are always up there with the contenders, which should remain the case as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are around. The Chiefs are the third favorites to win the big game and aren’t that far removed from winning their last one, having gone all the way in 2019.
Despite losing Tyreek Hill, KC still has all the tools necessary to compete at the highest level and win championships.
While they have the No.1 offense in the NFL at the moment, they aren’t as strong defensively and have the 24th-ranked defense right now. Losing Tyrann Mathieu was never going to help a team who has been questionable on that side of the ball for the last few years.
Of course, they have enough firepower to cover this issue and would be worth the risk when it comes to betting. Should the Bills and Eagles lose form, the Chiefs’ odds could shorten quickly, so why not snag their current odds of 13/2 now?
Apart from the Giants, there are other teams worth taking a chance on. The Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and the Dallas Cowboys are still honorable mentions at this juncture. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are having a pretty poor season right now but Tom Brady has proven that he should be counted out at one’s own risk. 16/1 odds could be had on the Bucs at the moment, as well as the Ravens, and 49ers while the Cowboys are 20/1.
