Who is Laurent Le Glaunec, the new president of Draguignan?

Since 1is January, Laurent Le Glaunec is officially the new president of the Bar Association of Draguignan. More civil than criminal, he is now the representative of the 253 active councils of a jurisdiction extending from Brignoles to Fréjus, from Saint-Tropez to Draguignan and “bringing together specialists in all fields”.

How is the Bar of Draguignan doing?

Pretty good. Despite its average size – some bars have 800 lawyers – it brings together specialists in all fields, whether in tax, banking, enforcement, rural law… We even have a specialist in maritime law, Nicolas Marty . This multiplicity is a real strength. The jurisdiction of the judicial court of Draguignan is quite broad, including rural, coastal and urban territories. Contrary to popular belief, the lawyers of our bar are not all generalists.

The litigant does not need to go to Marseilles or Nice to find advice.

What will your role be during the two years of your mandate?

Above all, I have a role of representing the profession with our institutions, the judicial tribunal and the public prosecutor’s office. But I would also like the bar to communicate a little more, like what can be done with our colleagues in Grasse or Toulon. In this regard, I approached the local press organs to offer help and advice sections where different lawyers from the bar would be called upon.

This could create a dynamic among local lawyers. In the same spirit, I would like to modernize the website of the bar (www.avocazur.com).

And as far as local actions are concerned, next June we are organizing a training day on civil procedure in partnership with the faculty of Draguignan.

On the 12th of the same month, a football challenge will take place in memory of Laurent Garcia. (passed away suddenly October 15, 2020)who was a huge sports fan.

How do you view the latest justice reforms?

To hijack a certain campaign slogan of François Hollande a few years ago, we can say that with justice, change is all the time! We are in a period of perpetual reform, and it is difficult for legal professionals to adapt. Finding a certain peace of mind would be welcome, even if the lack of means of justice in France must be fought. On this issue, we are obviously in solidarity with the fight led by the magistrates.

What are the relations with the presidency of the judicial court and the prosecution?

They are very good. There is a common desire to exchange, to share. We are past the briefing stage. The bar is involved and is listened to. Since 1is January, no incident to report. This is proof that dialogue works, especially when the interlocutors have the same goal.
