The artist Lapili dismantles stereotypes in her first album, ‘Piligrossa’
‘Muslona’: the hit that catapulted her to success
Although “Cómeme el donut” became known throughout Spain, it was not an original creation of María del Pilar Robles, better known as Lapili. Shortly after, he released completely his own songs such as “Muslona” y ““Not deplida”in which he challenges the female stereotypes. “Muslona”, in particular, reached 10 million views, becoming a true anthem of empowerment and body acceptancewhere Lapili celebrates the diversity of bodies, especially those of women.
With a fusion of reggaeton and electro-pop rhythms, the song combines humor, social criticism and his own visual and musical styleaccompanied by a challenging tone that has allowed Lapili to stand out and differentiate itself within the current musical panorama.
‘Piligrossa’, his first studio album
The word demand perfectly summarizes the 12 songs and 11 interludes that make up the first studio album by the Ciudad Real singer. While the interludes tell Lapili’s personal story, the songs are compositions he has written over time, forming a cohesive narrative.
The album fuses Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as dembow and kuduro, with electronic influences, and explores themes of empowerment, feminism, self-love and the fight against stereotypes. All this is presented within the framework of a “story” that Lapili dedicates to her inner child, turning the album into an ode to improvement, freedom and sisterhood. The title “On Pilgrim” is a clever play on words that combines her name (Pilar) with the term “grossa”, which in Italian means “big”, alluding to how she has been perceived as “a danger” for defying social norms.
This project is not only an album, but also a work that combines music, literature and illustrations. Lapili presented it in a theater-concert format in ‘Los Teatros del Canal’ in Madrid, inspired by The Neverending Story. The goal: connect with your audience in a deeper way.
