WHO is investigating the role of aerosols in virus spread after scientists have been called in NOW

Health organization WHO will respond to the Monday call that 239 scientists from 32 countries did on Sunday. They want the WHO to recognize that the coronavirus also spreads in infectious small droplets called aerosols. WHO says it will investigate the scientists’ findings.

According to the WHO, the coronavirus mainly spreads from person to person through drops from the nose or mouth, which are expelled when a corona patient coughs, sneezes or speaks.

The information on the WHO site regarding corona contamination hazard was last updated on June 29, writes Reuters. Benedetta Allegranzi, technical director of outbreak prevention and control at the UN organization, talks to the news agency that the organization has been monitoring the influence of aerosols in recent months, but hard evidence was lacking to identify it as a common virus propagator.

Signers of the scientific letter state that both larger drops that can get into the air and the much smaller drops that can float through a space can lead to infection. They advise more attention to good ventilation of nursing homes and companies, for example.
