The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will have Emilia Esther Calleja Alor as its first director in history, after the new appointment in Claudia Sheinbaum’s expanded presidential cabinet was announced on Monday, August 12.
Calleja Alor will replace Manuel Bartlett as head of the CFE once Claudia Sheinbaum’s six-year term begins, which will be from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2030.
Claudia Sheinbaum, who will receive the certificate as president-elect on August 15, said that Emilia Esther Callejea Alor “is an engineer who comes from the bottom. She grew up in CFE and is also a woman who loves the Federal Electricity Commission, who knows the subject and who has enormous leadership among her colleagues.”

In revealing the new member of the expanded presidential cabinet, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo revealed the profile of the future head of the Federal Electricity Commission.
According to the resume presented on Monday, Calleja Alor graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Technological University of Celaya and has a master’s degree in Administration and Senior Management from the Autonomous University of Coahuila.
He is also a specialist in administration, resource management and operation of the electrical industry, and has collaborated in “various areas of the Federal Electricity Commission for 21 years.”
In addition to her engineering and master’s degree, Emilia Esther Calleja Alor has completed diplomas in instrumentation and control, training administration, human relations, leadership and middle management training.
Currently, Emilia Esther Calleja Alor serves as general director at the CFE Generación Subsidiary Productive Company.

- Construction project manager for a new power plant
- Technical supervisor in instrumentation and control
- Head of the analysis and results department
- Head of the chemical and environmental operations department at the Celaya National Training Center
- Technical Verifier in support of the Thermoelectric Generation Coordination of the Subdirectorate of Non-Regulated Businesses
- President of the Impartiality Committee of the Management Systems Certification Body

Minutes after being introduced as the person who will take over Manuel Bartlett’s position at the CFE, Emilia Calleja gave her first words.
In her first message as future director of CFE, Emilia Calleja thanked the appointment and assured that under Manuel Bartlett’s command, “CFE was rescued and Mexico’s energy sovereignty was defended.”
He also announced his first challenges, which include strengthening the 54 percent participation in electricity generation in Mexico, promoting the efficient use of energy, promoting the energy transition, “guaranteeing that electricity reaches all homes at affordable prices.”
“I am a CFE employee with a little over 21 years of seniority. I entered through a training process to be a shift manager and was able to become a superintendent,” she added, speaking about her experience at the head of the Federal Electricity Commission.
