The World Health Organization (WHO) is now investigating a mysterious disease, which has spread to South Sudan.
According to ABC News the mysterious disease has led to 97 deaths, in Fangak province alone.
According to the country’s Ministry of Health, there are the most deaths reported among the elderly and children between one and 14 years.
Not cholera
According to the authorities, the symptoms of the mysterious disease are cough, diarrhea, fever, headache, chest pain, joint pain, loss of appetite and a weaker body.
WHO Africa spokesman Collins Boakye-Agyemang tells the channel that they started investigating the disease in November, but have not yet found an answer.
The WHO has also checked whether there may be a cholera outbreak, but these tests have been negative.
Flood
The area where the disease has spread has recently also been affected by a flood, which also makes it easier for the disease to spread, according to MSF.
– People do not have enough water or opportunities for water storage, and there is no garbage collection, while dead goats and dogs are left and rot in the drainage systems. As conditions worsen, more people have gathered in the same areas, which in turn leads to a higher risk of outbreaks and waterborne diseases such as acute watery diarrhea, cholera and malaria, the organization said in a statement earlier in December.
