WHO: immunity from COVID-19 vaccines lasts up to six months | Health | Magazine

An analysis of the data available prior to the emergence of the Omicron variant was performed.

World Health Organization (WHO) revealed related scientific data with the duration of immunity offered by vaccines against covid-19 they point out that they can be extended up to six months after its application.

“We have reviewed the data out there and most of it shows that immunity lasts for up to six months,” said the Director of the WHO Immunization Department, Kate O’Brien, at a news conference.

The group that advises WHO on immunization issues noted that it is too early to comment on the new omicron variant and how it responds to vaccines.

In addition, the advisory group on vaccines also recommended that a booster dose of anti-virus injection in immunosuppressed people.

The recommendation comes after the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) carries out a meeting about the need to strengthen the population immunized against covid.

In an informative meeting, the president of SAGE, Alejandro Cravioto, said that the data that are appearing shows that the effectiveness of vaccines against covid-19 is decreasing, and that a significant decrease is observed, especially in the elderly.

On the other hand, the WHO urged the countries of the world to act quickly, as the next days and weeks will determine the development of the Omicron variant.

“If countries wait for their hospitals to start filling up, it will be too late. Do not wait. Act now ”, has maintained the general director of the organization, Tedros Adhanom.
