WHO: end of the crown pandemic in sight, new waves expected

According to the UN agency, the lowest number of deaths per crown was recorded last week since March 2020, in the first wave. WHO expects more waves to come, but the world now has vaccines and antivirals to manage the effects. This was stated by the American epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove, responsible for the fight against the coronavirus on behalf of the WHO.

According to the WHO, a total of more than 606 million corona infections have been confirmed, leading to the deaths of nearly 6.5 million people. Actual numbers are likely to be higher.

The number of new infections with monkeypox virus is also decreasing. WHO calls on countries to remain vigilant. “As with Covid-19, this is not the time to relax or let the attention slip away,” Tedros said.
