WHO draws attention to side effects of vaccinations

Monday starts the ‘international adverse reaction week’ organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). This year’s annual campaign focuses mainly on reporting side effects after a vaccination.

For the Netherlands, the Lareb Side Effects Center and the MEB Medicines Authority are participating. “The goal of this week is to draw attention to the reporting of side effects. Because the more we know about this, the safer we can use vaccines and medicines,” says Lareb. The #updatesweek campaign includes animation videos and images with informative texts on social media.

According to Lareb, there have been 161,470 reports of side effects after vaccination with corona vaccines in the Netherlands. The most common are muscle aches, headaches, feeling unwell and fatigue. Reactions at the puncture site such as pain, swelling and a feeling of warmth have also been commonly reported. Lareb also received reports of severe allergic reactions, tinnitus, menstrual disorders, blood clots and inflammation of the heart, among other things.
