Trevor Sinclair has passionately challenged Jamie Carragher’s view that Neymar and Kylian Mbappé “shouldn’t play for Paris Saint-Germain.”
The Liverpool legend described Ligue 1 as a ‘poor league’ as he worked as an expert for CBS as the French team advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League at the expense of reigning champions Bayern Munich.

But Carragher says both players only play in France for the money.
“I don’t think players of the quality of Mbappé and Neymar should play for PSG,” Carragher explained.
“They shouldn’t play in the French league. It’s a bad league, an average league and basically it’s about these Champions League nights.
“Playing week after week in the French league… players of that quality shouldn’t play in that league, it’s not good enough.
“The best players do not play in France, they are only there for the money. Nobody can tell me that the French league is a superior league.
“Why don’t the best players play in the French league right now?”
And while Simon Jordan echoed Carragher’s sentiments about Ligue 1, former Manchester City and West Ham winger Sinclair certainly didn’t.
“I’m 100 percent not having that,” Sinclair said in a passionate discussion on talkSPORT.
“When you look at Mbappé, he won the U19 Euro Cup with France, it’s the World Cup with France, he played for Monaco and he moved to the biggest club in France and he wants to win the Champions League with them.

“And once you’ve done it, maybe go ahead and experience a different league: LaLiga, the Premier League, the Bundesliga… who knows.
But I can’t agree with that [from Carragher]. The boy cannot be denied, he wants to do it in the capital of France «.
Sinclair continued: “When he was in Monaco he had 53 games [before signing for PSG].
“Barcelona and all the big clubs are not going to go with a player who has played 53 games for Monaco.
“That is why he has gone to PSG, because they recognize his talent in his own country.

Sinclair believes that Mbappé, for example, is within his right to seek Champions League glory at PSG.
“It’s like a player who goes to Celtic or Rangers, so if they prove their worth in that country, they could go to the English Premier League.”
Unsurprisingly, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan had a lot to say in response to Sinclair.
The talkSPORT insider explained: “However, how did that work out for Lionel Messi? How did you launch your career in Argentina?
“Or he just went to play for the biggest club, at that time, in world soccer, where their standards and the standards of soccer were significantly higher.
“We know that Ligue 1 does not have the same competitive tension as the big leagues.

“If it is [doing it] when they play in the Champions League, but how many games is that Trev? Thirteen per season? We are talking about national football here.
“You are seeing the facts by the fact that he went to PSG. If PSG didn’t have a lot of money that they could afford to pay you, do you think you would be at PSG?
“We are talking about money. If PSG didn’t have this huge amount of money, they couldn’t have it.
“All the best players have not gone to play for Saint-Etienne or the other French teams of course, they have gone where the money is!”
Returning to the air after a commercial break, Jordan returned with a statistic that he believed would end the Sinclair debate once and for all, or so he believed.

A smug Jordan replied, “How many games did he play? It was 49… so there goes Trevor’s argument: you can hear thousands of toilets flushing all over the world.
However, Sinclair had a final triumph to oust Jordan, insisting: “And how did that work?”
“Well… yes, that’s true,” Jordan admitted.
