For me, YouTube was always just a storage space for my videos. The majority is unlisted. It’s free and you can save as many videos as possible.
Out of curiosity, I uploaded videos every now and then 10 years ago. Most of the videos are about cars that I accelerate on the highway and film with a camera. I used to just upload the whole thing like that. Today I’m editing the video. For example, take 2 scenes and add information. A nice way to pass the time when you have a lot of time and it’s boring.
There are many who upload the same content and have great success with it. I also don’t just put videos of cars, but also of driving through landscapes or through snowstorms.
The videos got the most clicks when the floods devastated almost the entire city and I recorded the whole thing while driving a truck.
The video with the most clicks has exactly 1 million views and is a boring video of me testing acceleration from a motorway rest stop. Without any information. The rest only have a few views. Some 90 or 300. A total of 54 videos are online.
By the way, no one watches the nature videos or snow landscapes even though I find them the most beautiful. There are only about 5 videos though.
The cars are very different and mostly from friends and acquaintances. This is how you see an old Audi S8 from 2004. Otherwise all the others from 2010 onwards. Completely normal cars like Opel Corsa E, VW Tiguan or Skoda Octavia.
But also sporty cars like a Golf GTI Clubsport, BMW M235i, Audi A6 etc. I even tested and checked cars that were chipped.
The channel was never really that important to me. Even if I have it covered with pictures. But recently I tried to spice up the channel a bit. A better name that suits cars. (Before that it was a nickname) and edited thumbnails. But nothing worked.
I don’t understand how other filmmakers have such success with the same video and nothing happens to me. Without the flood and 1 million videos, I would only have 150 subscribers. Now there are 700. I’m embarrassed by the video of the flood, even though it hit me exactly the same way. So I censored a lot to protect the privacy of the other victims.
