SinPo.id – The director of WHO’s Department of Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention, Maria Van Kerkhove, said that smallpox, which is transmitted through skin contact, is not the same as the Covid-19 virus, which is transmitted through air. The two do not spread in the same way.
“We do not see the same situation happening,” said Kerkhoveaid, quoted from Anadolu, Saturday, August 24 2024.
“Anyone can get mpox if you have contact with an infected person. However, that does not mean that everyone will get smallpox,” he said.
Kerkhoveaid explained that the spread of the Covid-19 virus through the air is fast and effective. Thus causing a global spread.
“There are many things we can do with the right information, by stopping the spread in different ways,” he said.
According to WHO, it is a viral infection that can spread through direct contact as well as through contaminated surfaces such as bed sheets, clothes and needles.
