In 2014, the “WHO Collaborating Center for Quality Assurance and Empowerment in Mental Health (registration reference DEU-131)” at the LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf, clinics of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, under the coordination of Univ.-Prof. dr Wolfgang Gaebel settled.

One of WHO’s tasks is to promote and carry out research in the health sector. In order to fulfill this obligation, the WHO is dependent on external support and has set up a global network of collaborating centers for this purpose.

During the term, the center will deal with the development, dissemination and implementation of methods for quality management in the area of ​​care for persons with mental illnesses as well as the development and implementation of the revised chapter on the classification of mental and behavioral disorders of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD- 11) deal with. This also includes the development of training programs to implement the revised classification criteria.

Reports on the progress of the work are to be submitted annually. For DEU-131, this period was initially set at 4 years until 2018, after which a further so-called redesignation was granted until 2022 after a corresponding application and internal review by the WHO. In April 2022, the term of the WHO CC was again extended by a further four years to 2026.

Working Tasks and Research

In 2014, the „WHO Collaborating Centre for Quality Assurance and Empowerment in Mental Health“ was inaugurated and situated at the LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf – Clinics of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.

The Düsseldorf WHO Collaborating Centre will address the development, dissemination and implementation of quality management methods in mental healthcare.
