WHO Certified Malaria-Free China after 70 Years of Struggle

“After 70 years of efforts, China has been awarded the WHO malaria-free certification, an important achievement for a country that reported 30 million cases of the disease annually in the 1940s,” the WHO statement said.

“Today we congratulate the Chinese people who have cleansed the country of malaria,” said WHO Director -General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

He said China had joined a growing number of countries showing the world that a malaria-free future is a worthy goal.
