WHO celebrated British commemorative coin with Royal Mint – Marseille News

WHO will be celebrated by the UK Royal Mint with a new commemorative coin. Features symbols of the band’s live performance including a union flag, Mod logo, and a jaw-dropping Rickenbacker guitar. Together, the symbols on the coin form a pinball table, a nod to their 1969 single. “Pinball Magician” and the Tommy album. The part and its range are available Monday.

Using the latest technology and innovative manufacturing techniques, a number of pieces will feature a special “shock wave” effect, radiating from the speaker, enhancing the detail of the piece. The designers and artisans of La Monnaie developed this effect in honor of The Who’s record-breaking loud concert, a record that was held for a decade. The design is the fourth in the Royal Mint’s Music Legends series, recognizing Britain’s most iconic musicians. Previous winners include Queen, David Bowie, and Elton John.

Clare Maclennan, Divisional Director of the Commemorative Coin at the Royal Mint, said: “The Who are an iconic British group with an incredible musical heritage, so it felt right to honor them with an official British coin. The Who piece is the latest in our breathtaking Music Legends series, which celebrates legendary British artists through original new designs.

It was a privilege to have Roger Daltrey visit the Mint to mint one of the first coins and meet the team of makers who created this magnificent design. Our Music Legends series engages new generations of coin collectors, and we hope this design becomes a cherished part of fan memories. ”

Roger Daltrey, Co-Founder and Lead Vocalist of The Who commented, “It is an honor to have a piece produced to celebrate The Who’s musical legacy. The design of the piece captures the true essence of the band and what we stand for.

Pete TownshendThe Who lead guitarist added: “I am delighted that the band’s work is recognized by this fantastic line of Royal Mint coins.
