Who can attend all festivals and concerts for free for a year? Fourteen duos compete against each other in ‘Popquiz’ | TV

TVOn Thursday April 1 – and no, it’s not a joke – the brand new program ‘Popquiz’ will start on VTM. In it, fourteen duos compete for the title of ‘Popquiz’ champion for ten episodes. Whoever wins the title will receive free access to all concerts and festivals throughout the country for a year.

The presenter of duty is Matthijs van Nieuwkerk (60). He became a TV icon with our northern neighbors through his legendary daily talk show ‘De Wereld Draait Door’, which could also count on loyal fans in Flanders. In addition, he has also been presenting ‘Top-2000 à go-go’, a music program between Christmas and New Year, for almost twenty years, and his new program ‘Matthijs Gaat Door’ is also full of music. ‘Popquiz’ is the first program he presents in Flanders. Reason enough for Koen Wauters to pick up Matthijs in the Netherlands and to check on his knowledge of Flanders during the car journey.

Fourteen duos will compete for the title of ‘Pop Quiz’ champion for ten episodes. How can they win that title? Just by knowing everything about music. After all, ‘Pop Quiz’ is understood as a kind of World Cup Music Quizzes. The quiz consists of seven group matches, two semi-finals and one grand final. At the end of each group match, the winning duo will conquer a place in the top 4 and advance to the semi-finals. After that, two duos remain to compete for the win in the final. Each team is assisted by a famous Fleming. They were rigorously selected on three criteria: pop knowledge, joie de vivre, but also: a tough winner’s mentality.

The duos will fight for their lives because a lot depends on it. The winning duo of the ‘Popquiz’ will receive tickets for a year for all concerts throughout the country, including festivals. As soon as everything is allowed again, of course. Sold out or not.

The house orchestra: Senne & Lokko

The theme throughout the program is the resident orchestra, consisting of singer-keyboard wizard Senne Guns and drummer-keyboardist-guitarist Laurens ‘Lokko’ Billiet. They play the generic live, all jingles and also take care of a number of quiz rounds themselves. There are only two of them which is by definition too little to be able to play what they have to play, but they make it a sport to refuse to believe that. If desired, they also keep track of the score and occasionally bring the candidates a glass of water.

‘Popquiz’, from Thursday 1 April at 8.40 pm at VTM.
