WHO “British mutant virus spreads to 70 countries” | Voice of America

The mutant coronavirus discovered in the UK has now spread to 70 countries around the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) said yesterday (27th).

The WHO also announced that the mutant virus found in South Africa has spread to 31 countries, and that mutations reported in Brazil have been reported in 8 countries.

Regarding the mutant virus from the UK, the WHO explained that “there is some evidence that the mutant virus increases its severity, but this is preliminary and further analysis is needed to confirm.”

Meanwhile, it is known that the British government will maintain a state blockade until early March.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said yesterday (27th) in Parliament that “the door will not be reopened to all students after the mid-February break” regarding the timing of the school’s reopening.

Earlier, the British government announced a third blockade from the 5th as the average daily confirmed coronavirus exceeded 60,000.

In this regard, Prime Minister Johnson said March 8 is the earliest time to open school again. He said that returning students to school will be the first sign of their return to school, and hopes that other containment measures can be gradually eased in stages.

The UK is the first European country to have more than 100,000 deaths from coronavirus on the 26th.

The UK is currently imposing entry bans on travelers from 22’high risk’ countries that have recently spread the mutant coronavirus, including South Africa and some South American countries.
