WHO Brings Bad News About Covid-19, What Is It?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The World Health Organization (WHO) again brings bad news about the global development of Covid-19. The UN agency noted that the death toll had jumped by more than 43%, after falling 23%, in the fourth week of March 2022.

New Covid-19 deaths were recorded at more than 45,711 worldwide last week. However, weekly cases new declines after surging two weeks in a row, down 14% to 10.8 million compared to before.

According to WHO, the increase in death cases is caused by two things. Namely changes to the definition of Covid-19 death in America, including Chile and the US. This is also related to data adjustment in India, where 4,000 deaths were added from the state of Maharashtra.

“Possibly driven by changes in the definition of Covid-19 deaths in several countries in the Americas region and retrospective adjustments reported from India,” the WHO said.

The WHO itself has repeatedly said that the current data on the number of Covid-19 cases is likely to underestimate the prevalence of the coronavirus. The agency warned countries in recent weeks against “cutting back” efforts on comprehensive testing and other surveillance measures, saying that would cripple efforts to accurately track the spread of the virus.

“Data is becoming increasingly less representative, less timely and less robust,” the WHO said.

“This hinders our collective ability to track where the virus is, how it is spreading, and how it is progressing, information and analysis that remains critical to its effective end.”
