WHO approves the first smallpox test kit for emergency use | RYT9

WHO declared smallpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years in August. After an outbreak of this infectious virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. or DR Congo It has spread to neighboring countries such as Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda.

There are two types of smallpox currently circulating, including the “clade I” strain, which is endemic in parts of west and central Africa. and a new “clade Ib” strain that is more infectious and causing global concern.

In addition to DR Congo and neighboring countries, Sweden, India and Thailand have also confirmed cases of clade 1B smallpox virus.
