Mortality from coronavirus is declining in all regions except Europe. At the same time, the highest mortality rate is in the regions with the least access to vaccines.
Coronavirus mortality is at its lowest in nearly a year. About it stated WHO chief Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus at a briefing on Wednesday 13 October.
“The number of weekly COVID-19 deaths continues to decline and is now at its lowest level in almost a year. But this is still an unacceptably high level of almost 50,000 deaths per week, and the real number is certainly higher,” Gebreyesus said.
The head of the WHO clarified that COVID mortality is declining in all regions except Europe – there are several countries facing a new wave of coronavirus at once.
“And, of course, mortality is highest in countries and populations with the least access to vaccines. As you know, 56 countries that were effectively excluded from the global vaccine market failed to reach the target of vaccinating 10% of their population by the end of September – and most of them are in Africa, “added Gebreyesus.
Recall that in Ukraine, the COVID mortality rate has sharply increased per day – 471 people died in a day… Also, 4,901 Ukrainians were hospitalized the day before.
NAS: In October, the growth of COVID will exceed 20 thousand per day
