According to the head of the NEURC, Konstantin Uschapovsky, Ukrainians, who will consume more electricity, will pay “an adequate price” for electricity.
The National Commission for State Regulation in the Field of Energy and Utilities (NEURC) is considering the issues of the minimum limit for electricity consumption and the establishment of new electricity tariffs, which will depend on the volume of consumption. About this on March 2 on the air of the telethon told head of the National Commission Konstantin Uschapovsky.
According to him, new models for the operation of the electricity market are currently being developed in Ukraine, and in this regard, several scenarios for raising tariffs, including those for the population, are being considered. Uschapovsky noted that those consumers who consume more will pay “an adequate price” for light.
“Those consumers who will consume above this limit and have the opportunity to pay for electricity at the actual cost of its production and transportation will pay an adequate price,” he explained.
The official clarified that, in fact, the principle of distribution of electricity prices will not change. For example, today customers pay UAH 1.44 for consumption up to 250 kW, and UAH 1.68 per kilowatt for consumption above 250 kW, but the prices themselves will be changed.
Ushchapovsky explained that the calculation of electricity tariffs is carried out taking into account the destruction in the energy sector and other factors. In particular, now Ukrainians still pay 1.68 per kilowatt, but due to Russian strikes on the facilities of Ukrenergo and Energoatom, it will be problematic as before to cover the difference in the cost of electricity. Therefore, the state is forced to look for a way out of this situation.
Meanwhile, he stressed that the state will provide subsidies to vulnerable segments of the population, and payments for them will not increase.
Earlier, Uschapovsky spoke about how and when tariffs for utilities will be raised in Ukraine. In an interview with Forbes, he said that the revision of tariffs may take place in the near future and the reason for this is the strikes of Russian troops on the country’s energy facilities.
