Publishers of video games have partnered with
World Health Organization (WHO) to launch a communication campaign called #PlayApartTogether. The operation aims to use the most popular games to convey health messages to gamers confined because of the
coronavirus. WHO hopes to be able to help millions of players around the world adopt the right behaviors to fight the Covid-19.

Respect for safety distances between individuals, regular hand washing or social distancing will be highlighted in the communications exchanged during the games. The big names in video games will use the hashtag to encourage the most effective attitudes towards the pandemic.

Events, activities and awards will be specifically added to the titles of participating publishers. Among them, we find Activision Blizzard, Kabam, Snap Games, Amazon Appstore, Maysalward, Twitch, Riot Games or YouTube Gaming. “The #PlayApartTogether program brings out the notions of positivism and community that can help mobilize us in the face of the urgent task ahead,” said Bernard Kim, publications manager at publisher Zynga.

“I thank the video game industry for agreeing to help us end the Covid-19 pandemic,” Ray Chambers, the US ambassador to WHO, said in a statement. We hope this campaign (…) will encourage even more people to pay attention to their health while helping (…) to save lives. “
