The World Health Organization (WHO) alerted the countries of the region about the circulation of a vaccine against Covid-19 counterfeit that was detected a month ago in Mexico and that could continue to be distributed
The WHO clarifies that this counterfeit product was supplied and administered to patients outside the vaccination programs authorized to combat the new virus.
“This counterfeit COVID-19 vaccine it can continue in circulation in the region and can continue to be offered to patients outside the authorized vaccination programs, “the world body warned in a statement issued this Friday.
The batch number and expiration dates on the irregular product were reported to be falsified. Also, that the glass vials and the label are different from the authentic Covid-19 BNT162b2 vaccine vials.
“Counterfeit Covid-19 vaccines pose a serious risk to global public health and place an additional burden on vulnerable populations and healthcare systems. It is important to identify them and remove them from circulation ”, emphasizes the WHO.
In its statement, the WHO asks you to increase surveillance in supply chains in countries and regions that may be affected by these counterfeit products.
“Increased surveillance should include hospitals, clinics, health centers, wholesalers, distributors, pharmacies and any other provider of medical products.”
At the same time, people are asked that in the event of any strange situation regarding vaccines against the new coronavirus, it is necessary to consult with the Health authorities. In addition, that they follow the instructions of the health companies that carry the correct vaccination process.
Even last February, false drugs and doses against Covid-19 were also detected in Colombia. According to Semana magazine, this put countries in the region such as Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil and Panama on alert.
