Whitney Museum of American Art Offers Free Admission on Second Sundays and Free Friday Nights – How to Reserve Tickets

NEW YORK — During the winter season many seek indoor activities due to the cold.

One of the many experiences that can be had during these months of low temperatures is to visit a museum in New York City, and if it is free, even better.

The good news is that art lovers will be able to visit the Whitney Museum of American Art, one of the most popular museums in the Big Apple, free on certain dates thanks to two programs: Free Friday Nights y Second Sundays.

What Second Sundays is about and when does it start?

The second Sunday of each month Whitney Museum of American Art will offer free admission with special programming for people of all ages. The Whitney’s Second Sundays program represents a significant expansion of the museum’s already robust offering of free and discounted programs. By offering free admission and special programming, this initiative seeks to reduce barriers to entry at the Whitney, providing audiences with a welcoming entry point and contributing to the museum’s mission of celebrating contemporary American art and artists.

The first free Second Sundays show will be on Sunday, January 14.

During this day visitors will be able to find a special programming designed for visitors of all ages.

For the first edition of this monthly program, on January 14, people will find live musical performances, artistic activities for all ages and tours that will celebrate the successful exhibition Henry Taylor: B Side and the work of prominent artists such as Ruth Asawa and Sadie Barnette.

At 11:30 am and 1:00 pm, artists from Jazz at Lincoln Center will perform a concert specially designed for children, exploring how African American artists and their experiences have profoundly shaped music in the United States.

What Free Fridays or Free Fridays nights are about

In addition to Second Sundays, the museum announces the launch of Free Friday Nights (Free Friday Nights) starting January 12, with free admission from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

These nights will be accompanied by live music and special programming. The Whitney’s Free Friday Nights are presented as an ideal destination to enjoy Happy Hours and gatherings with friends, contributing significantly to the nighttime dynamics of the Meatpacking District.

Every Friday afternoon from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm admission to the Museum is free.

What do I need to be able to enter these days for free?

Although admission is free for these programs, it is necessary to have tickets, which can be reserved.
