On Monday, October 7, sad news about the death of singer Cissy Houston circulated in the media. The two-time Grammy winner died at the age of 91 at her home in New Jersey. In recent years, the artist suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was under constant care in a hospice.
“I am sad to announce that my beloved queen Cissy Houston passed away today! Please pray for the Houston family,” Pat Houston, the singer’s daughter-in-law, said on Instagram.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Pat Houston also expressed deep sorrow to close family members.
“It is with great pain and sadness that we learned of the death of a pillar of our family. Cissy was a woman (…) whose life was dedicated to family, service and community. Her seven decades in music and entertainment will forever remain in our hearts,” she added.

Cissy Houston was born on September 30, 1933, the youngest of eight siblings. She began her musical career in the gospel group Drinkard Singers, and then Sweet Inspirations. In 1969, she began her solo career and released an album titled “Presenting Cissy Houston”. In 1979, she placed second at the World Popular Song Festival, where she won the Most Outstanding Performance award.
Houston was also a two-time Grammy Award winner. In 1996 for the album “Face to Face”, and in 1998 for “He Leadeth Me”. Over the years, she had the opportunity to perform many times with her daughter Whitney Houston. She persuaded her to change her lifestyle and cared about her good name. A year after the pop icon’s death, in 2013, Cissy released a book dedicated to Whitney.
