Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
An office White House those who have been vaccinated have tested positive covid-19. The official, who has not been identified, has mild symptoms.
A White House spokesman confirmed the official had no contact with President Joe Biden or other top-level staff.
“I would like to confirm that yesterday a fully vaccinated White House official tested positive for COVID-19 off campus,” Biden press secretary Jen Psaki said.
He said under strict health protocols, the official should stay away from the White House pending further test results.
Psaki said in addition to this case, there are other COVID cases at the White House. However, he did not confirm how many or when the cases occurred.
He only said the incident was a reminder of the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine against severe illness or hospitalization.
“We know there will be other cases. The White House is preparing to deal with them with regular testing,” Psaki said.
The COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the United States has made great progress as the country battles the pandemic. About 68 percent of adults in the country have received at least the first dose.
However, the vaccination program has stalled in recent weeks. It was the result of political disagreements between supporters of former presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
