On Thursday, the White House affirmed its firm support for Israel in the face of Iran’s threats, with no desire to inflame the conflict.
The White House said, “We do not want the scope of the conflict to expand, and Washington’s support for Israel remains steadfast in the face of the threats of Iran and its proxies.”
The White House added that it “conveyed to Iran that Washington had nothing to do with the attack on the consulate in Damascus,” explaining that it was “the US administration’s unwillingness to expand the scope of the conflict.”
The US State Department said that Secretary Anthony Blinken “spoke to the foreign ministers of Turkey, China, and Saudi Arabia during the past 24 hours to make clear that escalation is not in the interest of any party.”
The State Department added that the United States “remains concerned about the risks of escalation in the Middle East, especially after Iran’s threats to Israel.”
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Israel is “prepared for scenarios in other regions” apart from the Gaza Strip, which is experiencing a war that entered its seventh month this week, warning that his country “will strike whoever strikes it.”
Netanyahu added: “We are in the midst of the war in Gaza, but we are also preparing for scenarios in other regions,” adding: “We are ready to meet Israel’s security requirements in defense and attack.”
Netanyahu’s speech came on the sidelines of his visit to an air base housing F-15 fighter jets, of which the Israeli fleet is the air force’s main weapon for long-range strikes, according to the newspaper. The Times of Israel“.
Netanyahu said: “We have established a simple principle: whoever hits us, we will hit him,” in a clear reference to Iranian threats to carry out strikes against Israel.
These statements come after Iran pledged to respond to a strike attributed to Israel, which targeted an Iranian diplomatic compound in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei confirmed, on Wednesday, that Israel “will receive punishment” after the attack attributed to it on April 1 in Syria.
The attack destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus and led to the death of 16 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard mourned 7 of its members in the attack, including two senior officers.
