According to a recent survey by credit insurer Acredia, 86% of companies consider economic crime a threat
Vienna (OTS) –
- New technologies like machine learning and deepfake video push security concepts to the limit
- Only 33 percent of companies claim to be insured against damage caused by white-collar crime
- New insurance product from market leader Acredia wants to fill the gaps in protection
“In our digital world, the question is no longer whether a company will be the victim of white-collar crime, but when
“, said Michael Kolb, managing director of the largest national credit insurance company Acredia, on the occasion of the presentation of an ongoing investigation *. In collaboration with the market research institute Peter Hajek Public Opinion Strategies, they were about 150 Austrian companies interviewed on the subject of white-collar crime.
“We wanted to know to what extent companies estimate the risk of becoming victims of white-collar crime,” reports Kolb. “57% rate the hazard as very high or high and another 29% rate the threat as medium. Only 14 percent rate the risk as low.
“
New technologies as a further threat
“Businesses today face, among other things, order fraud, diverted payment flows, embezzlement, embezzlement, phishing, spyware, etc.
“Says Michael Kolb. At the same time, criminals are becoming more creative and spy on companies in depth before the actual attack. “New technologies continually make holes in corporate safety nets. With machine learning and deepfake videos, voice and image can already be imitated in a deceptively real way
‘Warns Kolb.
Companies are therefore required to continuously adapt their security concepts. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises can quickly reach their organizational and financial limits. This makes them an ideal gateway for scammers targeting large companies.
The risk is highly valued, but is rarely hedged
However, the risk of white-collar crime is rarely insured. Only 33% of the companies surveyed said they have adequate insurance. After all, four percent plan to insure their company next year, and 57 percent are considering insurance. “There is a huge security gap here, especially considering how quickly fraud methods are evolving
‘Kolb points out.
New insurance product to fill the gaps in protection
A new insurance product is now coming to market, especially for SMEs, which is intended to help fill any gaps in protection. “ACREDIA Trust is a so-called loyalty insurance
‘explains Kolb. “This allows companies to insure against financial losses caused by criminal acts by trusted people or third parties
. “
Examples of typical offenses covered by the ACREDIA Trust are:
- False President / False CEO Betrug
- return order
- payment fraud
- Crimes against assets such as damage to property, embezzlement or theft
- Betrayal of own and third party business secrets
- Know the violations of duty
- External attacks targeting IT systems such as phishing and keyloggers
The groups of perpetrators are diverse and can range from unknown hackers to the staff of service providers outside of your own management.
BELIEVE Trust will be available on the market from mid-September.
