WHITE & CASE STRENGTHENS WHITE COLLAR PRACTICE
White & Case expands its global white collar practice with the addition of Sophia Habbe as a partner in Germany (Frankfurt).
“White collar criminal law is of strategic importance to many of our global clients. That’s why we are expanding our practice to ensure we have the necessary expertise in all relevant jurisdictions to provide first-class, value-added service and to support our clients in complex regulatory compliance – and white collar matters in the best possible way,” said White & Case partner Joel M. Cohen, global head of the white collar practice. “As a large economy, Germany is an important market for us and our clients, and the addition of Sophia, a leading partner with proven compliance & investigations expertise, is an important step in our global expansion.”
Sophia advises German and international companies on complex regulatory, criminal and internal investigations as well as subsequent process and crisis management. Her experience includes conducting complex cross-border investigations in the context of ESG and Diversity & Inclusion compliance as well as corporate and capital markets law issues, including conducting litigation before regulators and courts. Sophia comes to White & Case from Noerr, where she was previously a partner and co-head of the Compliance & Investigations practice group. At White & Case she will lead the German internal investigations team.
“Sophia has extensive experience in civil and regulatory internal investigations, compliance and corporate governance, including ESG,” said White & Case Partner Markus Langen, Regional Section Head, EMEA Disputes. “In addition, her experience in crisis management gives her credibility and a strong network in German companies. Sophia will work closely with partner Daniel Zapf in Germany, and together they will provide the full range of expertise our clients require in the areas of white collar criminal law, internal Cover investigations and compliance.”
Karsten Wöckener, Head of Germany, said: “We continue to invest globally in building a broad and deep white collar crime practice. The increase in regulation and enforcement makes this necessary. The addition of Sophia follows the additions of the White Collar Partners Ladan Stewart in New York, Neill Blundell in London and Rachel Rodman in Washington, DC, as well as Commercial Litigation Partners Kami Haeri and Alexandre Kiabski in Paris and Darryl Bernstein in Johannesburg in 2024, all of whom have extensive experience in the areas of white-collar crime and internal affairs investigations.”
