The right to physical integrity (Article 2 of the Basic Law) is a fundamental right. In the fight against the corona pandemic, temporary restrictions on freedoms such as freedom of assembly (Art. 8 GG) or freedom of movement (Art. 11 GG) are therefore essential. However, together with other NGOs, we are closely monitoring the extent to which the principle of proportionality is maintained. Because, how Heribert Prantl put it in the Süddeutsche Zeitung has: “A democracy suffers massively from its restrictions, no matter how necessary they may be in the short term.”
In crises, decisions with far-reaching consequences are made in a short space of time and large sums of public money are distributed. This is why it is particularly important at this time to disclose, broadly discuss and question the basis for decision-making. Whistleblowers can contribute to greater transparency and the early detection of grievances. In this way you can support the media in exercising their control function (provided they are willing to do so). That is why we support the demands of German and European organizations that consider whistleblower protection necessary, especially in exceptional times, and are available to receive tips.

Notes
We are available to receive tips. We specifically ask for whistleblowing, not denunciation. Our advisory services are only aimed at (potential) whistleblowers who have pointed out significant grievances in their workplace in the public interest or are considering doing so.
