Several Veeningers are concerned about plans by the town of De Wolden to turn an old riding school into a shelter in Veeningen. They mostly feel that they were not informed correctly or in time about the plans.
The city wants to make room for two hundred migrant workers and fifty Ukrainian refugees at the old riding school. Residents have sent a letter to the town. It is not clear who sent the letter and how many residents support the letter.
The Veeningers wrote further that they feel they have bad information and know too late. According to the residents, documents requested on the basis of the Open Government Act (WOO) were sent late and were largely painted black.
Mayor Inge Nieuwenhuizen of De Wolden informed the city council with a letter on October 8. He explains that it is planned to rent the old riding school at Veeningen 3A to create the shelter.
“There is still a great need for shelters for displaced Ukrainians. De Wolden takes his responsibility in this,” wrote Nieuwenhuizen to the city council. In September, they decided that 269 shelter places should be added in the city.
B&W would like to incorporate the outcome of these discussions into a final decision, which will be communicated to all parties involved.
