The jury of the DPG Masters underwater photography competition has announced the names of the 2023 winners. The best photograph was awarded to the Italian Marco Gargiulo, entitled “Passenger.” — an imperial black fish riding a jellyfish against the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius.
“Perhaps the most appropriate compliment I can give to this photo is the question, ‘How did they do it?’,” one of the jury members commented on the winner’s photo. According to experts, the striking feature of the photo was the contrast of black water and blue sky on a sunny day.
One of the winners of the competition was Micro Zanni with a photograph of an alligator.
The jury also recognized Suliman Alatiki with a photograph of a cynomolgus macaque foraging for food in the water.
