Charlotte.- A few weeks ago, students returned to schools across the state and in some of them, the majority are Hispanic.
There are 2,599 public schools in the state and in 97 of themof the total number of students, 50% or more are Hispanicaccording to an exercise carried out by Qué Pasa using statistics North Carolina Department of Public Instruction from the previous school year.
That is, in almost 4 out of every 100 schools, the majority of students are Latino.
From all over North Carolina, Elbert Edwin Waddell High Schoolin Charlotte, is the school with the highest percentage of Hispanic students.
This is because of the 114 students that the school has, 111 are Latino, equivalent to 97.4% of the total.
He follows Montclaire Elementaryalso in Charlotte, where 406 of a total of 475 students are Hispanic, that is, 85.5%.
Top ten schools with the most Hispanics
The schools with the highest Latino presence are: Elbert Edwin Waddell High School and Montclaire Elementary.
In third place is Charlotte East Language Academy, where out of 652 students, 511 are Hispanic, which is more than 80%.
While in fourth and fifth place are Starmount Academy of Excellence and Berryhill School, where of the total, 79.2% and 76.7% are Latino, respectively.
Meanwhile, in sixth place is Sterling Elementary School, where 76 out of every 100 students are Hispanic.

Of the 97 schools, 30 are located in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.
Sampson County ranks second, as it is home to seven of the schools with the highest Latino presence, including Union High, where 239 of the 391 students are Hispanic.
Wake, Union, Johnston and Duplin counties follow, each with six schools.
