Sherlock Holmes? Dorian Gray? Mr Darcy?
Perhaps every woman at least once in her life fell in love with a literary character. Still would! After all, on the pages of books there are often those very ideal gentlemen that the fair sex dreams about. A few years ago, one of the popular book services conducted a survey among domestic readers on the topic “Which literary character do you consider ideal?” As it turned out, most often ladies dream of being in the place of Scarlett O’Hara – the heroine of Margaret Mitchell’s cult novel Gone with the Wind. After all, it was this heroine who managed to captivate the heart of handsome Rhett Butler, for whom 34% of respondents voted. In second place is Mr. Darcy (“Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen). It is possible that film adaptations contributed to his popularity in many ways – in one of them the role of Mr. Darcy was played by the brilliant Colin Firth, in another by the aristocratic Matthew MacFadyen. The third place was rightfully taken by Captain Gray from Alexander Grin’s story “Scarlet Sails”. In addition, Sherlock Holmes, Andrei Bolkonsky, Jay Gatsby were among the most attractive characters.
