A new wax figure of the American singer Mariah Carey, best known for the immortal hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, was unveiled in New York this week. The mannequin, which was placed in the Madame Tussauds museum, was created especially for the Christmas season, but it has one more specific feature – it is said to capture the form of its prototype so perfectly that it is indistinguishable from the singer. The wax figure is dressed in a glittering red dress inspired by the outfit Mariah wore in the 2020 special “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas.” The look is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s aesthetic, which the museum also emphasized during the presentation. Carey poses next to her wax figure on a bench with Christmas decorations while holding a tree ornament, perfectly matching the Christmas atmosphere of the scene on display. The background of the mannequin is completed by a snowy landscape with subtle references to her favorite jack russell terriers, which is said to add to the uniqueness of the exhibition.
The singer kicked off her much-anticipated start to the Christmas season this year with a humorous Instagram video titled “It’s time.” In the video, which she posted shortly after midnight on Nov. 1, Carey plays with the Addams Family theme as she’s styled as Morticia Addams. In a glittering black dress, with a diamond necklace from Kay Jewelers, dark makeup and a black wig, she dances with a man dressed as Gomez Addams. After a dramatic climax where she throws a knife at a picture on the wall, she rises, smiles and the camera reveals a red Christmas dress and decorations as the screen reads “It’s Time!”
