Which is more beneficial for health: walking 10,000 steps daily or walking at a brisk pace?

The adage is well known: you have to walk 10,000 steps a day to stay healthye. This remedy, stemming from an advertising slogan launched in the 1960s, is now taken up everywhere across the planet, including fitness applications and connected watches.

Traveling 7.5 kilometers a day, however, can be a lofty goal for many. Studies have proven that the market has benefits well before this threshold: each time you take 2,000 steps, you reduce the risk of illness and premature death by almost 10%. And the risk of dementia decreases by 25% from 3,800 steps.

Clearly, every step is worth taking against a sedentary lifestyle and its harmful effects on the body. But the walking speed must also be taken into consideration. A brisk pace further reduces heart risk, for example, than a leisurely walk. The pace would be all the more important for people walking little.

Just wondering how fast? Walking briskly means taking at least 80 to 100 steps per minute.. Consider a walk during which you feel that you are making an effort but which must remain pleasant.
