A less pleasant side of the corona vaccine is that it can cause side effects. For some complaints such as headache, muscle pain or pain at the injection site, a paracetamol can provide relief. But is it wise to take it preventively, or better after the vaccination?
Create antibodies
After putting a vaccine, our body starts to produce antibodies. This is no different for the corona vaccine. It is not uncommon for a vaccine to have some side effects. The body gets to work and produces antibodies against the virus. It is very common that this is accompanied by complaints. Muscle pain, headache, fatigue, chills, joint pain, fever and nausea are some of the side effects of the corona vaccine.
Paracetamol before or after vaccination?
Those who suffer from side effects can take paracetamol for relief. But can it hurt to take this preventively? We put the question to doctor Ted van Essen. “It can’t hurt, but I would advise doing it after the vaccination. And then only if it is really necessary. ” Two doctors from Dokter Media also advise taking the paracetamol after vaccination.
Research
It has not yet been definitively established, it is still under investigation, but there is a risk that if you take paracetamol before vaccination, the body will produce less antibodies. But as said, this has not yet been proven. In any case, you are only properly protected after the 2nd injection. For those who have had corona and receive the vaccine within six months, this is already after the 1st injection.
To be safe than sorry
“If you have complaints, only take a paracetamol. That is harmless and relieves the pain. So just to be on the safe side, better after the vaccination, ”said Dr. Ted. The RIVM advises not to exceed the stated quantity stated in the package leaflet. Do you not trust the complaints? Then contact your doctor.
