JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Mobil often become the choice of Indonesian people who want practicality in driving. Because, with mobil automatic transmission the driver no longer needs to play the clutch pedal to shift the acceleration gear.
All automatic cars, surely the acceleration gearshift is automatic. It’s just that there are several models, namely Automatic Transmission (AT), Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), dan Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
The three transmissions have very basic differences, ranging from construction, working methods, to perceived performance.

For AT and CVT transmissions, use a torque converter as a distribution of engine power to the transmission. Now, from this component, a gap appears for power loss on a small scale because the working principle relies on oil in transferring power.
Loss of power is deliberately made, as a substitute for the clutch. As is known at the beginning of the road manual transmission requires half a clutch to drive the vehicle.
The torque converter also works like that because the transmission and engine shafts are not fused, but are only connected by two adjacent turbines.
The turbine in the engine will move the oil and eventually the transmission turbine will rotate because of the oil. This rotation is the source of the rotation that enters the transmission.

Therefore, when the AT or CVT transmission lever is in position D, the engine starts, the vehicle will run slowly, and once braked, the vehicle can stop comfortably without having to move the lever to N. , in lieu of a clutch.
While the DCT transmission, it still uses a dry clutch where the clutch can still be played, although with the help of a motor that is automatically regulated by the ECU.
So, on the DCT there is no loss of power when the clutch is connected. In other words, the amount of engine speed can be fully channeled to the transmission.
This is what makes the DCT model transmission superior to other automatic transmissions in terms of power distribution.

Foreman Nissan Bintaro Ibrohim said, if sorted in terms of power distribution performance, DCT is superior to other automatics, followed by AT and then CVT.
“In terms of power distribution performance; DCT, AT then CVT. But in terms of comfort, CVT is the winner,” said Ibrohim to Kompas.com, Wednesday (6/7/2022).
He said the gearshift on the DCT is very pronounced, so it requires special skills in terms of playing the gas pedal. If the gas pedal is stepped on too spontaneously, it can give the impression of being too responsive, especially at low speeds.
While on the CVT, the displacement ratio is not felt at all because the performance of the pulleys and the steel belt itself is very soft in adjusting the ratio. If the gas pedal is stepped on spontaneously, the vehicle will continue to run smoothly.
So, some automatic transmission models have advantages according to their respective characters.
