The winter season is now upon us and the fear of a new explosion of positive cases at Covid-19 has become a reality. Therefore, hospitals, also thanks to the reopening of schools, are increasingly suffering in managing the various cases in good time. Moreover, the costs to be incurred to carry out swabs in private facilities are too high. So it is necessary to open new gates. And that’s exactly what Federfarma is doing, that is the Unitary National Federation of Pharmacy Owners. So let’s take a closer look at which regions with Federfarma have activated serological tests for free in pharmacies.
Emilia Romagna
The region that led the way was Emilia Romagna. But now more and more regions are showing interest in following in his footsteps. And in fact, rapid serological tests are being launched in pharmacies which, in just 15 minutes, allow us to understand the following. That is, it is known whether a person has developed the antibodies produced by the immune system in response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Lombardy
Moving to Lombardy, another region under the eye of the storm, the campaign “Let’s not let our guard down” has started. With this evocative title, Federfarma Brescia’s camper has been touring the whole province since the beginning of October. The aim is always to carry out serological tests and swabs to citizens. Twenty-seven are the planned stages located in twenty locations in the Brescia area. After all, Brescia is not the only experience of this kind. In fact, even in Bergamo, Federfarma is at the starting blocks with a similar initiative.
Trentino
A parallel experimental protocol for the execution of rapid antigenic tests is the one at the start in the pharmacies of the Autonomous Province of Trento. In this case, resources amounting to 1.2 million euros were made available only for the two-month period November / December 2020. This is what can be read on the Federfarma home page. Rapid antigen tests, at the expense of the provincial health service, can be carried out at the affiliated pharmacies that wish to join the initiative.
This is the goal of the agreement signed in Trento between the local health authority and the local pharmacies (public and private). The agreement in particular provides that the withdrawals are made by nurses, within the pharmacies. However, this can only happen if the structures have separate rooms and different entrances. Otherwise, the tests will be carried out externally, in “drive-through” mode. It is understood that pharmacies will respect safety protocols, in order to guarantee suitable sanitation procedures at the end of each sample, if the test is carried out inside.
Umbria
A few days ago, the new agreement that Federfarma Umbria signed with the regional health management of the territory is just a few days ago. The aim is to initiate the screening of free serological tests in the pharmacy for the “people” of the school. In fact, thirty thousand tests have now been made available to private pharmacies belonging to Federfarma by the regional civil protection. Qualitative serologicals, i.e. the so-called lancing devices, can be performed by students and their families, if asymptomatic.
It will obviously be necessary to have a prescription from your GP or pediatrician to whom the reports must be sent. “To make an appointment, you always learn on the Federfarma page – just go to one of the participating pharmacies and present the recipe”. This is thelist of pharmacies participating in the regional screening system.
Piedmont
Meanwhile in Turin, and throughout Piedmont, the system of reservation rapid swabs in the pharmacy are still struggling to take off. The problem is that there is a shortage of nurses to provide this service. Of the 300 helpful nurses for whom the search for applications was initiated, only 10 appear to have been found. This is therefore the “state of the art” waiting for the gears of Federfarma’s “machine” to start working at full capacity.
