Families experience millions of mishaps each year that require insurance assistance. According to data from the employers’ association Unespa, In 2019, almost 8.7 million problems were recorded in homes and neighboring municipalities. Specifically, 7.4 million accidents occurred in individual homes and 1.27 million in homeowner communities.
On average, the insurance sector solves 1,004 problems that occur in homes and communities of owners in Spain every hour.
The most common of all is related to water damage and is the appearance of leaks, which accounted for more than a third of that year’s mishap, at 3.297 million. The next most frequent statements appearing in the list are glass damage, with 1.23 million alerts; the support services, with 1.04 million; and the electrical damage, with more than 753,500 shares. In case of robberiesthe study quantifies the number of accidents that mostly involved individual homes as over 384,000 (over 357,000), which represent 4.4% of the total number of accidents.

While Unespa has not yet presented data for all of 2020, it does have the calculations for part of the pandemic year. And it says that between August 1, 2019 and July 31, 2020, there were more than 78,000 incidents related to thefts, compounded by the decrease in accidents during the first state of alarm.
By community, the insurance employer states that Catalonia is the region with the highest probability of experiencing a home robbery (58% more than the whole of Spain), followed by Murcia (46%) and the Valencian Community (11%); i.e. on the Mediterranean coast, where most of the second residences are concentrated.
However, in Andalusia, Madrid or the Balearic Islands the probability is lower to the national average, while Galicia, Asturias, the Canary Islands and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla are the areas of the country least likely to suffer this type of mishap.
